More about subtraction - finding the difference!

We learnt that finding the difference between two numbers is done by using subtraction! That means take away the smallest number from the biggest number. This can help us to find out how much older someone is or how many more or less of something we have. For example, Poppy had 10 apples and Amber had 6. How many more apples did Poppy have? What's the difference?
Well, 10 - 6 = 4. So Poppy had 4 more than Amber.
Here is a picture of Kevin's "find the difference activity". We had to roll two dice and work out the difference between the two numbers.
