Today we studied the Healesville Santuary Map online (see 1B links - it has been added there). We noticed what facilities are needed such as drink taps, car parking and toilets. We talked about t-intersections and forks in the paths. Then, we went and designed our own Animal Park. Tomorrow we will add some directions for a friend to follow and see if they get to the right place.

How to Make a Blog

Since Zaara shared her blog "Stories for Kids" I have had some requests for information about how to make an educational blog. There are many sites where you can set up a free blog. I, myself, am only really familiar with blogger.com (blogspot).

Zaara's family set up her blog at wordpress.com. Zaara uses her blog to publish her stories. She uploads drawings or cartoons as illustrations for each stories. Her blog is set so that comments made by other people need to be checked and approved by her family before they are published on the blog. This is also the case for our class blog. If you have ever wondered why there are never photos or videos of our students on the class blog, it is simply a measure taken to protect our identities. Some advice: *Keep informed. Remember to read the weekly cyber-safety tip in the school newsletter. Our school promotes eSmart behaviours so that students will understand the nature of the internet and think critically about what they are putting online. *Keep personal details safe. Only use first name or a nickname online. Don't share your surname, address, phone number or the name of your school. *Keep your identity safe. If you really want to have a "profile picture", use a drawing of yourself instead of a real photo. Or choose a cute or funny photo of a favourite animal or character. This shares a bit of your personality without exposing your identity online. There are many benefits to blogging. What an incredible response to our Show and Tell challenge this past week! Many children have brought in a new creation crafted from already used items. The main challenge was not to buy anything new to add the the creation. Well done 1B!

Poppy and Ms Box took less than 3 minutes to work out how to present photos of Poppy's Show and Tell on the iPad using an easy to use iPad app called Pic Collage. Awesome job, Poppy!

How to Log Books on for the Premier's Reading Challenge

Hi everyone! Please don't forget to log books online. I have logged 11 class books for everyone but some students still need to reach the 30 books including enough challenge books.
Remember your username is your first and last name, all in lowercase without spaces and password rangeview1. This information should be inside your reader. If you are having problems please let me know and I will try to log them on for you (as long as you have kept a list!)

Hello Everyone. I hope you had a wonderful 100 day celebration today. I'm sorry I couldn't be there. I went to the doctor today and I hope to be back at school on Friday.

I did submit this week's student of the week but I just read the newsletter online and 1B is missing!!

Ethan L - For your very fascinating Show and Tell, from detailed holiday diaries to models of the sun with facts to share. We also admire the way you have begun encouraging others in the class and reassuring them with kind words when they are feeling worried, frustrated or sad. What a supportive friend, Ethan L!

Ethan, you will receive your certificate on Monday and we will make your poster on Friday (this week) so that it can hang outside our classroom door next week. You will be published in NEXT week's newsletter instead. Apologies Ethan, I don't know why it was missed out in the newsletter but these things happen sometimes.

Reading Challenge Update!!

Well done Eva for completing the Premier's Reading Challenge! So far 14 children from 1B have completed the challenge. A special mention to Millie and Ella who completed the Sooper Dooper Reading Challenge and received their giant certificate for reading 100 books. What voracious reading! Well done.

Premier's Reading Challenge Update

Well done to Jake, Nelson, Poppy and Sam on completing the Reading Challenge! IT was great to see you make use of some spare time on the holidays to complete this. Awesome work. We now have 12 students finished and some who are almost finished. How can we work out the number of people left to complete it? There's 23 children in our class so...
12 + ? = 23

Also, Millie has read 68 books! I have a feeling Ella is going for the 100 book Super Challenge as she has already logged 86 books!

Premier's Reading Challenge Update

Ella has now read 73 books for the Challenge! It looks like she is taking up the Super Dooper Challenge and will make it to 100....if so, I think that calls for an extra special certificates. Three of these special certificates were awarded last year in 1B. Will it happen again?!
Millie is not far behind Ella and has read 68 books! Ethan L has read 55, Max and Emily J are on 52! Wow, wow, wow!!!!!
